“We do not agree with the government’s proposal to amend Article 158 of the General Law on Fisheries and Aquaculture, which is openly discriminatory for our sources of work, for our families, for the future of our children, The only option for our sources of labor for future operations other than limiting and shutting down,” he argued in a statement.

As an example, he pointed to the case of the current closure of a salmon company in the southern region, “where the government is faced with the ultimate problem of leaving about 1,100 workers of the company without work. This, Without counting indirect workers and supplier companies and SMEs, a figure that could be even higher”.

“Can you imagine what it would be like to eliminate 60% of this industry? The problem would be multiplied by many more companies”, he stressed to the multi-union.

Based on the law that is being made, the president of the trade union unit, Alejandro Santibénez, announced that together with other trade union organizations and workers, they would mobilize “due to the zero criteria and lack of realism of those who believe that By legislating or governing from centralism they intend to put your foot back in the hands of the workers.

“Furthermore, the absence of the Ministry of Economy in this debate continues to draw our attention, as it is imperative to evaluate the potential impacts on employment and growth of approving this proposal. announces the discussion of a new general law on aquaculture in the U.S., as this dialogue will begin with tighter restrictions on our activity”, he tells Salmonchili.
