Working for civil protection requires a commitment from the whole community

Congressman Alfredo Azurín Loaza from Somos Peru, President of the Multiparty Commission for Citizen Security, recalled that working for civil security is a joint work of all people and instances in the country.

The legislator called for the participation of parents, teachers, officials and the entire community to join the fight against school violence cases.

This was followed by the participation of Ana María Montoya Ruelas, director of the General Directorate of Regular Basic Education of the Ministry of Education, who provided statistics about the cases and modus operandi of school violence.

In 2022 the target of attending school violence cases was 85%, for the year 2023 the target is to attend 90% of them.

In 2022, 5,136 cases of physical violence, 4,487 cases of psychological violence and 2,431 cases of sexual violence have been reported. So far this school year, as of April 30, 2023, 1,463 cases of physical violence, 430 of psychological violence and 483 of sexual violence have been reported.

88.2% of the cases reported have received timely attention. This does not mean that other matters have not been dealt with; The official confirmed, but serious cases, which require more attention, have not yet been closed to create a substantial account.

With regard to preventive action in cases of drug use in primary and secondary basic education, the officer argued that the issue is part of the curriculum which has jurisdiction over classroom tutorials and works disseminated in educational centres. The Drug Use Prevention Care target for the year 2022 was 70%. The focus target for this year is 75%.

The Ministry of Education works on a joint program with DEVIDA, both institutions implement drug use prevention programs. In 2022, 422 educational institutions were targeted under the said programme. For this year we coordinated actions to train teachers within the framework of the drug abuse prevention program.

Montoya Ruels commented that, to implement broad-spectrum policies, a significant obstacle is the limited budget. We would like to see more number of educational institutions participate, but budget limitation is a constraint, as are some rules that need to be modified.

On the one hand, they demand results from us, but the content evaluation of parent-participatory books has not yet been given for science and technology, social science and other areas, he pointed out.
