The Dominican Republic couldn’t handle the task and fell to Venezuela in its debut in the World Baseball Classic. Sandy Alcantara was the starter for the Dominicans but left the mound at first. The pitcher of the Miami Marlins spoke later and about the bitter defeat that he and the Dominicans suffered at the beginning of their journey through the 2023 WBC.
Alcantara Sandy was chosen by Rodney Linares to open the game between the Dominican Republic and Venezuela because of the most outstanding player in the rotation. But it was not said as expected.
The Miami Marlins pitcher took the loss for the game after working three and two-thirds innings in which he allowed three runs and five hits, one of which was a home run.
The current National League Cy Young spoke after the heavy defeat that the Dominicans suffered against the Venezuelans. This was what he said;
I don’t think the team is lost, I think I’m missing a voice. But I am high in my head. We’re all fine because we know we’re going to win the next game. (…). We have lost today but we have not lost hope.
The Dominican Republic will return to action on Monday afternoon, March 13. On that day, Group D of the World Baseball Classic (WBC) will meet the Nicaraguan team in Miami, Florida.

I joined ‘Al Bat’ in September 2020, the beginning of a new job in which I always try to give the best version of myself, in addition to leaving a significant mark in the transition of women in an industry that is mainly handled by men. Bachelor of Communication Sciences and Techniques from the Inter-American University for Development (UNID), I am an expert in sports journalism, writing and editing texts, with three years of experience covering sports, especially baseball in the Mexican Baseball League (LMB) ), Mexican League Pacific (LMP) and MLB. I was an intern at the LMB Lions of Yucatán Baseball Club, with whom I participated in the 2019 Serie del Rey. I did work for social networks as the coverage of the 2019-2020 edition of the LMP Final for ‘Con Las Bases Llenas’. I am constantly updated on social networks, SEO, Google positioning, writing, digital journalism, as well as the place of women in the sports industry. Originally from Mérida, Yucatán, his first access to baseball was in the Lions of Yucatán game, in the ‘Kukulcán Álamo’ Park, in 2015; and that changed my life completely. I love the “Melenudes” team and the biggest passion I have in this game. Although I devote most of my time in the pod, my game was at the beginning of the disease (and still is) disease. Real Madrid and Bayern Munich won my heart and fans from ‘minute one’, and I am lucky to have already seen them playing live. Clearly a fan of Cristiano Ronaldo and Manuel Neuer.
